There's a great injustice going on inside the White House involving lobsters and the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are on it.
PETA is asking executive chef Cristeta Comerford to use a device that stuns and kills lobsters, crabs and other shellfish before they are boiled. The invention is called the Crustastun (a fun name for a death machine!) and it prevents the animals from dying a slow death by boiling.
Instead of dying in a hot pan of water, which PETA says can take three minutes, the crustaceans are put in a tank then stunned by an electrical current. Death occurs within seconds.
Lobster was on the menu for the 2011 state dinner with President Hu of China. It was also served at this year's inaugural luncheon. Perhaps in the future, lobsters killed for political purposes won't be served with a side of suffering.
